Lucid Linter ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our Chrome extension and web application.
Information We Collect
Account Information
When you sign up for Lucid Linter, we collect your email address and name (if provided) through our authentication provider (WorkOS). This information is used to create and manage your account.
Usage Data
We collect anonymized usage statistics including:
- Number of text explanations generated
- Number of jargon detections performed
- General usage patterns (no personal content)
Lexicon Data
When you use the explanation feature, we store the words or phrases you've explained along with their explanations in your personal lexicon. This data is stored securely and is only accessible to you.
Payment Information
If you subscribe to our Pro plan, we use Stripe to process payments. Stripe collects and stores your payment information (credit card details, billing address) according to their privacy policy. We only store your Stripe customer ID and subscription status, not your payment details.
Extension Storage
The Chrome extension stores the following data locally on your device using Chrome's local storage:
- Authentication token (encrypted)
- User account information (email, name)
- User preferences and settings
This data is stored locally and never shared with third parties except as necessary to provide the service.

AI Processing and Data Sharing
OpenAI API
When you request an explanation or jargon detection, the text you select (along with surrounding context) is sent to OpenAI's API for processing. This data is subject to OpenAI's privacy policy and data usage terms. We do not send your personal information or account details to OpenAI.
OpenAI may use this data to improve their models, but you can opt out by contacting OpenAI directly or by not using the explanation features.
Data Retention
Text sent to OpenAI is not stored by OpenAI beyond their standard retention policies. Your lexicon entries are stored in our database and can be deleted at any time through your account settings.
Data Storage and Security
We use industry-standard security measures to protect your data:
- Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS)
- Secure authentication via WorkOS
- Database encryption at rest
- Regular security audits
Your data is stored in secure databases and is only accessible through authenticated API requests.
Extension Permissions
The Lucid Linter Chrome extension requires the following permissions:
- activeTab: To access text on the current tab for explanation and jargon detection
- storage: To store your authentication token and preferences locally
- tabs: To manage OAuth authentication flow
- identity: For OAuth authentication with WorkOS
- host_permissions: To make API calls to our backend service
We do not access or store any content from web pages beyond what you explicitly select for explanation. All processing happens locally in the extension or is sent to our secure API.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your personal data
- Delete your account and all associated data
- Export your lexicon data
- Opt out of data collection (by not using the service)
- Request corrections to your data

Third-Party Services
WorkOS
We use WorkOS for authentication. Your authentication data is subject to WorkOS's privacy policy.
OpenAI
We use OpenAI's API for text processing. Text you select is sent to OpenAI for explanation generation. Please review OpenAI's privacy policy for more information.
Stripe
We use Stripe to process payments for Pro subscriptions. When you subscribe, Stripe collects your payment information (credit card details, billing address). This data is handled by Stripe according to their privacy policy. We only receive your Stripe customer ID and subscription status, not your payment details.
Vercel
Our web application is hosted on Vercel. Vercel may collect standard web analytics data. Please review Vercel's privacy policy for more information.
Children's Privacy
Lucid Linter is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
